Programs

The Comox Valley Seed Bank manages two programs; namely, the Live Seed Bank program and the novel Seed Amassing program.

In the live Seed Bank, volunteer growers grow out different varieties to see how well they do year after year. Results and seeds are shared among Seed Bank members.

We are always looking out for seeds from terrific new varieties to try out. They must come from open pollinated (not hybrids) varieties grown out using organic principles. Let us know if you think you have a suitable variety.

In the Seed Amassing program, different varieties are tested around the Valley. Seeds are produced by volunteers following strict protocols. 1000 seeds of the best performers (labelled as All CV Winners) are preserved by freezing and refreshed every 5 years. Often we have extra seed, and these are offered for sale after germination testing. Proceeds are used only to support the program. Volunteers growers signup mid winter.

If you have any questions, ask away, either by email or on the Facebook Group.
